Adding DHCP Server Role
1. Click Start and select Manage Your Server if the screen does not appear at startup. Click Add or remove a role
2. Click Next
3. Select DHCP Server and click Next
4. Click Next
5. Wait for DHCP to be install
6. Click Next
7. Type in the Name and Description and click Next
8. Enter the Start IP Address and End IP Address. This is the IP address range that the DHCP Server will lease out. Once you enter the IP address, the Length and Subnet Mask should populate automatically. Click Next
9. Enter the Start IP Address and or End IP Address that you do not want DHCP Server to lease out to client. The reason for this is that you do not want DHCP Server to lease out an IP address of a Server that have been assign a static IP address. Click Add after entering Start IP Address and click Next
10. Change the Lease Duration or go with the default and click Next. This is where you decide how long you want HDCP Server to lease out IP address to client. The duration depend on how many clients you have and how many IP address you have available. If you have a lot of client, you might want to reduce the duration and vice versa.
11. Click Yes, I want to configure these options now. This will allow you to control what client will use like DNS Server, Default Gateway and ect.
12. Enter the IP Address and click Add or click Next to skip it
13. Enter the Parent Domain or DNS Server and click Add or click Next to skip it
14. Enter WINS Servers name and IP address and click Add or click Next to skip it
15. Select Yes, I want to activate this scope now
16. Click Finish
17. Click Finish
NOTE: Before a DHCP Server can lease out IP address to client the server must be authorize first. Open HDCP, Select the server and right click. Select Authorize. To the left of the DHCP server should be an arrow pointing up. When a DHCP Server is not authorize, the arrow is red pointing down. If you want to prevent a DHCP server from leasing out IP address go through the same process. Instead of selecting Authorize, select Unautorize.
