Computer recognized the external devices but it does not show in my computer
Computer that recognized the external devices but does not show in My Computer is the result of computer trying to assign the drive letter to the external devices that have already been use. This is a rare case because usually the computer knows what drive letter are available and try to assign the drive letter base on that. Or that your computer ran out of drive letter. If you can't see the devices in My Computer, do the following:
- Right click My Computer
- Select Manage
- In the left pane under Storage area, select Disk Management
- In the Disk 1 area, you should see a device without a drive letter assign. It should have the name Unallocated Space or something else but it should not have a drive letter
- Select Change Drive Letter and Paths
- Click Add button
- In Assign the following drive letter, click the drop down list to choose the drive letter
- Click OK
- The devices should now appear in My Computer
- The AutoPlay Dialog box should appear if the AutoPlay features is enable
