Create a Child Domain in a existing Forest
Child Domain is a subdomain of a parent directory structure. When Active Directory is installed on a domain controller in an existing domain, selecting the child domain automatically creates the trust paths between the parent and child domains and also appends the parent domain name. For an example: if the parent domain is server2003.com, the child domain is child.server2003.com.
- Click Start | Run | type DCPROMO
- Click Next in the Welcome screen
- In Operation Compatibility screen, click Next
- In Domain Controller Type screen, select Domain controller for a new domain and click Next
- In Create New Domain screen, select Child Domain in an existing domain tree radio button
- In Network Credential screen, type in the credential and click Next
- In Child Domain Installation screen,enter Parent Domain, Child Domain name and click Next
- In NetBIOS Domain Name screen, click Next
- In Database and Log Folders screen, you can change the path or leave it as default and click Next
- In Share System Volume screen, click Next
- In DNS Registration Diagnostics screen, click Next
- In Permissions screen, keep the default and click Next
- In Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password screen, type in the Password that will be use for Directory Service Restore Mode.
- Click Next
- In Summary screen, click Next
- Wait for Active Directory for the Child Domain to be created
- Click Finish
- Restart
