HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- AppEvents : This subkey contains paths to sound files that are loaded for specific system events (for example, when an error message occurs).
- Console : Store data for the console subsystem, which hosts all character-mode applications, including the MS-DOS command prompt. In addition, the console key can contain subkeys for customer command windows.
- Control Panel : This subkey contains subkeys for Control Panel settings, including information stored in the Win.ini and Control.ini files in Microsoft Windows 3.x.
- Environment : Stores environment variables users have set. Each value associates an environment variable with the string that Windows XP substitutes for the variable. The default values for these entries are in the user's profile.
- Identities : Contains one subkey for each identity in Microsoft Outlook Express. Outlook Express uses identities to allow multiple user to share a single mail client. With Windows XP's support for user profiles, one user's setting are separate from other users' settings, so this key is seldom necessary.
- Keyboard Layout : This subkey contains subkeys that contain values that define the current active keyboard layout, which you can set using the Keyboard tool in Control Panel.
- Network : This subkey contains subkeys that describe persistent and recent network connections.
- Printers : Stores user preferences for printers
- Software : This subkey contains subkeys describing the current user's software settings and contains program-specific information previously stored in the Win.ini or private initialization files in Windows 3.x.
- Volatile Environment : Contains environment variables defined when the user logged on to Windows XP.
