Miscellaneous Tips
- Keeps Windows, Applications, and Security tools up to date
- Never update your wireless router over a wireless connection because if the connection fails during the update, your wireless router might not work
- Don't open email attachment without scanning it first even though it is from a reliable source because it could be someone pretending to be someone you know.
- Do not click RUN after download unless it is from a website that you trust. Click Save instead and scan it.
- When logging on to a website, make sure to log off before going to another website because anyone can use the back button to get into your logging website account.
- When using public computer, always restart the computer to clear anything in RAM because the previous users may have gotten the computer infected or may have install something for their own benefit.
- Always have multiple security software to add extra layer of security
- Never download and install anything when it first comes out because the potential of flaws are great (Internet Explorer)
- Scan your computer for spyware, malware, viruses, and ect every week. (Depend on how often you use it)
- Defrag hard drive once a month for maximum data access speed (The more often, the better)
- Prevent dust buildup in your computer (Computer are like human, dust make it hard for them to breath)
- If you constantly leave your computer on all the time, make sure that your computer are not over heating. It is ok to turn off your computer once in a while to let it cool down.
- Don't visit any site that you do not trust because this is how you can infect your computer. Some sites get hack and the hacker infect the website. When you visit that website, your computer get infected.
- Disable Active X
- When visiting a site that require log in, make sure http is https for encryption as well as a keylock symbol usually at the bottom right
- Make sure that the site you are visiting is not a clone website that is created to look like the real website
- Never provide any personal information in e-mail because the e-mail can be intercept by someone else
- It is a good idea not to click on any link in an e-mail because sometime those link lead to a place where you do not want to be. Hover the mouse over the link to reveal the true link.
- Beware of phishing email especially the one from financial institution that ask for personal information. Usually financial institution do not ask for personal information.
