Missing Search Companion
When you try to do a search, the search companion screen is blank without the search box. All you will see is the dog. This issue is related to IE problem as well. The IE could not open link as well as do a search on search toolbar. If you are experiencing these issue, do the following.
If the above method does not work, try this:
NOTE: If you are prompted for the location of msgr3en.dll and your computer came with Windows XP preinstalled, it is likely to be at c:\windows\i386. - Click Start|Run|Type regsvr32 /i c:\windows\srchasst\srchui.dll
- Click OK
- A message will appear indicating that it was successful
- Click Start|Run|Type regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll
- Click OK
- A message will appear indicating that it was successful

- Log on to the computer by using an account with administrative permissions
- Click Start|Run|Type %systemroot%\inf
- Click OK
- Locate the Srchasst.inf file
- Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click install
- This reinstalls the files that Seach Companion uses
