Protecting Against Computer Infestation
- Install AntiVirus software and set your computer to run the AV program automatically at startup.
- Keep AV software updated by setting it to download automatic updates and download the latest version of AV
- Set a virus scan program to automatically scan word-processing documents and other e-mail attachments when they are opened.
- Implement a firewall (Software or Hardware)
- Keep Windows updated on your computer using the automatic update feature.
- Schedule backup of your hard drive to protect against potential infestation damages.
- Only download or buy software from a reputable vendors
- Don't trade program files on floppy disks or any other disks that may contain infected files.
- Always scan the disc or file download from the internet before executing any files
- Never use pirated software
- Format floppy disks before first use
- Write protect original program floppy disks, or use CDs to install programs.
- In a business environment, adopt strict company policies against using unauthorized software.
- Before using a computer that was previously use by other, hard boot the computer to clear the RAM.
- Set your computer CMOS setting to boot from drive C, then drive A.
- Turn on antivirus protection for your MBR in the CMOS settings, if available.
