Reconciling All Scopes in a DHCP Database
Reconciling is the process of verifying DHCP database values against DHCP registry values. Reconciling a DHCP database should be done when:
For an example, after you restore from backup you will see old information from the last backup. Some IP address that was lease out maybe different. When you reconcile, it populates the client lease information from the registry to the DHCP database.
Before DHCP server database can reconcile, the following criteria must be met.
- The DHCP database values are configured correctly, but they are not displayed correctly in the DHCP console.
- After you have restored a DHCP database, but the restored DHCP database does not have the most recent values.
For an example, after you restore from backup you will see old information from the last backup. Some IP address that was lease out maybe different. When you reconcile, it populates the client lease information from the registry to the DHCP database.
Before DHCP server database can reconcile, the following criteria must be met.
- Restore the DHCP server registry keys, or they must remain in tact from previous service operations on the server computer.
- Generate a fresh copy of the DHCP server database file in the %systemroot%\System32\DHCP folder on the server computer
To generate a Fresh Copy of the DHCP Server database do the following:
- Verify you have a backup copy of the DHCP database, including all the required files and subdirectories
- Stop DHCP Server service
- Click Start
- Select Run
- Type Services.msc
- Look for DHCP Server in the Service list
- Double click DHCP Server service
- Click Stop
- Click OK
- Delete all the database file (dhcp.mdb) in the current database path folder (C:\Windows\System32\dhcp)
- Restart DHCP server
1. Open DHCP MAnagement Console. Click Action and select Reconcile All Scopes
2. Click Verify
3. Click OK
4. If the DHCP database values is consistent with DHCP registry value, a message The database is consistent appear
5. Click OK
6. X out of Reconcile All Scopes page
4. If the DHCP database values is consistent with DHCP registry value, a message The database is consistent appear
5. Click OK
6. X out of Reconcile All Scopes page
Windows Server 2008
- Open DHCP console
- Select IPv4
- Click Action menu
- Select Reconcile All Scopes
- In Reconcile All Scopes, click Verify
- If the DHCP database values is consistent with DHCP registry value, a message The database is consistent appear
- Click OK
- X out of Reconcile All Scopes page
