Safely Remove Hardware
Most people remove their USB device(s) by pulling the device from the computer. This is not the correct way to do it because it can cause data corruption and can damage the USB devices. To safely remove a USB device do the following.
- In the system tray (bottom right), look for a USB icon (USB with a green arrow pointing diagonally downward)
- Put the mouse over it and right-click and select Safely Remove Hardware
- Depending on how many USB devices is currently connected to your computer, you will be presented with a list of USB devices that is connected to your computer
- Select the USB device that your want to remove and click Stop
- A message appear saying that it is safe to remove the device
- Now you should be able to remove the USB device from your computer
