Installing a DHCP Server
- Click Start, and then click Manage Your Server.
- Click Add or remove a role.
- On the Preliminary Steps screen, click Next.
- On the Server Role screen, look for and select DHCP server .
- Click Next.
- On the Summary of Selections screen, click Next.
- On the Welcome to the New Scope Wizard screen, click Next.
- On the Scope Name screen, type in the Name and Description.
- Click Next.
- On the IP Address Range, enter the range of addresses that the scope will distribute to the client. Also specify the Length and Subnet Mask or go with the default.
- Click Next.
- On Add Exclusions screen, add the IP address that you do not want the DHCP server to lease out to client. You would want to add the IP address of the server, printer, or any devices that have been assign a static IP address.
- ClickNext.
- On the Lease Duration screen, set how long each IP address will be lease or go with the default.
- Click Next.
- On Configure DHCP Options screen, select one that you want to do. For this instance Yes, I want to configure these options now. These are configuration that the client will received. Remember these setting are optional.
- Click Next.
- On Router (Default Gateway) screen, add the IP address of the default gateway that the client will use
- Click Next.
- On Domain Name and DNS Servers screen, type in Parent Domain name or IP address and add the name and the IP address of the DNS server.
- Click Next.
- On WINS Servers screen, if you have a WINS server you can enter the name and IP address or just leave it blank.
- Click Next.
- On Activate Scope screen, go with the default Yes, I want to activate this scope now.
- Click Next.
- On Completing the New Scope Wizard screen, click Finish
- On This Server is Now a DHCP Server screen, click Finish
